ＰＣによる機械的な翻訳がこれまで以上に発達することが予想されますが、機械的な翻訳には限界があります。文章全体、その前後関係、またその背景などを考慮した真意を伝える翻訳は、やはり人の手を必要とします。つまり、翻訳する者の能力・経験によりその出来は大きく左右されます。限られた時間の中で、洗練したものを作り続ける限り翻訳という仕事は、存続すると思います。
今週のイディオム【to be tied up】
I have another idiom this week which is often used in business situations: “to be tied up”.
This expression is used when people want to say that they are busy doing other things so that they can’t do something else. For example:
“I’m sorry, but Mr. Tanaka is tied up in a meeting right now. Would you like to leave a message for him?”
This expression is used in business situations. If you want to talk about a free time situation, you can say, “I’m busy.” or “I have plans”.
