今後の翻訳業界はどうなる？

百年前には未だ出版物を輸入するための翻訳が主要な目的でしたが、近年の情報伝達の加速にともない、その意味合いは大幅に変化しました。情報交換がもはや国家を前提としては進められない現状において、国際的に使用される英語、中国語のような言語は刻々と変容を強いられていますし、日本語を含めた各国のマイナーな言語もその影響を免れるわけではありません。専門性が高まる一方、速さが求められるばかりか、翻訳される言語、言葉の種類は多様を極め、通訳に近い即応性と技術が必要とされていると思われます。
今週のイディオム【to get the hang of something】
The idiom for this week is to “get the hang of” something. This expression is used when we want to talk about becoming skillful at something after starting to do it for the first time. If we use it in the negative, it’s very common to use the word “never”. Therefore, we often say “She never got the hang of it.” or “I’ll never get the hang of it.” However, if we use the present continuous, we don’t use the word ”never”. So, we would say “I’m not getting the hang of this.” Note that we use the word “this” instead of “it” because it’s happening at that moment.
